The Story Behind This Image
Lying still, eyes on the ceiling
She lies on the bed with one arm behind her head, staring at the ceiling, while behind her a bridge arches over a slow river in golden dawn light. Her maroon anarkali spreads around her like something kept for a special day that never quite arrived, the long braid over one shoulder, jhumkas catching the light. She is not asleep. She is awake in the way only grief keeps you awake.
Brushing her hair before a mirror
Earlier she brushed her hair slowly before the mirror, eyes red from unshed tears, and practised looking fine. The mirror did not believe her, and neither did she. So now she lies here instead, letting the morning do what it wants, watching the ceiling as if it might finally offer an answer.
Fragile, held by the light
The golden backlight flares through the bridge arches and softens everything it touches. Fragile is not a flaw in this frame โ it is the whole truth of it. A woman, a quiet room, a river moving slowly on, and a morning that asks nothing more of her than to lie still and breathe.
