The Story Behind This Image
Counting Minutes
The beach has emptied. Only she remains at the wooden table, a cold coffee clasped between her palms, her wind-whipped hair flying in every direction the storm chooses. The sea is grey and loud; the rain falls in sheets; and she watches the shoreline the way you watch a door โ expecting, always expecting, someone to appear in it.
He said dusk. The sky has gone the colour of old iron, and the last light bleeds out behind the clouds. Still, she does not check her phone. Checking would make the waiting real. Not checking keeps it a choice.
Tender Patience
Her cream knit top is damp through; her plaid skirt sticks to the chair. The coffee has gone cold, but her hands stay wrapped around the glass โ a small, warm illusion in the downpour. There is tenderness in her stillness, a patience that asks for nothing and hopes for everything.
Maybe he is stuck in the rain somewhere, thinking of her. Maybe the minutes are just minutes. She will sit here until the storm decides, counting them one by one, because some people are worth the whole weather.
