The Story Behind This Image
Gathering gulmohar petals into her dupatta
The terrace is hers this evening — clothes lines strung with drying laundry, pigeons puffed against the monsoon rain, the city blurred into blue-hour bokeh beyond the parapet. She walks through it all in a pastel salwar-kameez, bending to gather the fallen gulmohar petals into the fold of her dupatta, one bright handful at a time.
Bittersweet, in the loveliest way
Her messy bun comes loose in the damp wind, stray strands sticking to her cheeks. The heavy monsoon rain drums on the water tank and the tarpaulin; the pigeons watch her with round, unimpressed eyes. There is no one here to see her collect these petals — no reason for it at all, except that they are beautiful and she is here. Bittersweet is exactly the word: the petals will wilt by morning, and she gathers them anyway.
Some joys are meant to be temporary. She knows it, and she is smiling.
