The Story Behind This Image
Tehzeeb in Pastel
Old Lucknow does not shout; it murmurs. In a weathered haveli courtyard, beneath carved sandstone arches and the warm glow of hanging lanterns, she appears in a pastel-mint Lucknowi chikan sharara — delicate white-on-mint threadwork traced with fine pearl detailing. It is the very picture of Awadhi tehzeeb: dreamy, vintage, graceful.
Craft You Can See
Look closer and the outfit rewards it. The chikan embroidery — shadow work and phanda knots in the Lucknowi tradition — covers the kurta in a fine botanical lattice, while pearl edging traces the neckline, cuffs and sharara hem. The silhouette is classic: a straight kurta over a flared, pleated sharara that moves like water. Antique gold jewellery and a soft, romantic wave in her hair complete the old-world mood.
A Courtyard Out of Time
The haveli does half the storytelling — flaking mint-green plaster, stone pillars worn smooth by generations, bougainvillea spilling over the arches. She stands easy at its centre, hands relaxed, a small, knowing smile. Neither the place nor the person feels staged; both feel discovered.
