The Story Behind This Image
Face to the Monsoon
The bridge is drowned in monsoon. Neon pink and cyan bleed across the river below, the streetlamp throws its warm halo through the downpour, and she stands in the middle of it all with her face lifted to the sky — eyes closed, rain running down her cheeks like it's washing something off.
Her black turtleneck is soaked through. Her long coat hangs heavy. Her messy bun is coming undone, strand by strand, and she doesn't care. Some rains you shelter from. Some rains you stand in.
The Unfinished Face
In her room there's a canvas she's been avoiding for three months: a half-finished painting of a face she cannot quite name. The eyes are done — they look like someone she knew. The mouth is a blur. Every time she picks up the brush, her hand forgets what it was going to do.
Staring at a half-finished painting of a face she cannot quite name: that's the loneliest art project in the world. Tonight the monsoon does the painting for her — rain on skin, neon on water, a face lifted to the sky, finished at last.
