The Story Behind This Image
The platform that isn't
The abandoned hall has a sign that still says Platform 3, and she has decided to believe it. She sits on the wet wooden bench with her head in her hands, long braid falling forward over her denim jacket, floral dress pooled around her knees. The drizzle threads through the collapsed roof. The red seats around her are all empty, and every one of them is facing the wrong direction for the train that isn't coming.
Electric waiting
There is nothing serene about this kind of waiting — it hums. Her fingers press into her temples; her shoulders have the tension of a held note. Dawn is trying to break through the overcast, pale and diffused, and it keeps not quite arriving — exactly like the person she's waiting for. The window seat through three refills is behind her now. This is further down the same road: the bench, the hall, the platform that isn't.
What the frame holds
The composition traps her in the hall's beautiful decay — peeling paint, shattered grandeur, rain falling indoors. Photorealistic: drizzle on the bench, damp braid, the worn denim of her jacket. Her face is hidden, and that is the point — this frame is about the posture of waiting, not the person. An electric, aching portrait of hope with its hands over its eyes.
