The Story Behind This Image
Marigolds for a Doorway
She leans against the weathered wall near the deserted beach, head tilted down, her hands busy even in waiting โ stringing fresh marigolds for the doorway, humming their favourite old film song under her breath. The white summer dress is damp from the post-rain air, her messy bun coming loose in the sea breeze. Midnight, and the beach is empty, and the street behind her glistens wet and dark.
Hope That Stays, Passionate
There is a fierceness in her waiting that has nothing to do with patience and everything to do with love. The marigolds are bright orange against her palms โ absurdly, defiantly cheerful. She hums louder, daring the empty beach to feel sorry for her. It does not. The waves keep their rhythm, and she keeps stringing flowers, and somewhere in the city, someone she loves is on their way.
She believes this the way she believes in the tide. Completely. Without evidence. Without apology.
